Fair Luxury Provenance Pledge 2022 - BCorp?

This time last year, I, along with many other ethically and environmentally minded jewellers took the Fair Luxury Provenance Pledge. 

We we’re advised to keep things simple and pledge something that we knew we could achieve, so mine was all about continuing to do my best to educate both my own potential clients and other jewellers. Those who just might not know anything about all the problems that exist within the jewellery supply chain, and to highlight the alternatives. 

I do this all the time anyway, so it was possibly the easiest pledge I could have made. Some might say it was a bit of a cop out!!

So, this year, I’m thinking a little bigger….

I already knew a bit about BCorps, but for those of you that don’t, its a certification that a business is meeting the high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency. Or in plain English, it means they are at the very top of the environmental and ethical chart!

What I didn’t know until recently, is that this “super eco” certificate is within the reach of small sole trader businesses like me, and isn’t just for the big companies!

Now, there’s a LOT of work involved to achieve B Corp status, so although I want to aim high, I don’t want to set myself something that’s unachievable within the year’s timeframe of the pledge. So, my pledge is just to “do as much as I can” to work towards achieving BCorp status. 

The first step is to complete a big (the website says allow three hours!) questionnaire about my business. This then gives me a score and tells me all the things I need to do/change in order to become a BCorp. 

I do already do everything I can think of to keep Anna Fine Jewellery and The Studio’s impact on the planet as low as possible, but if this initial assessment shows me that I need to do more, I’ll obviously be putting that into practice as soon as I can too.
