Shortlisted!

I’m absolutely thrilled to be have been shortlisted for another award! This time it’s the 2024 Gloucestershire Business Awards for Green Business of The Year!

I now get to go to a swanky drinks reception evening where I have to do my best to convince the judges that I’m the woman worthy of the award. I be honest here and admit that I hate “networking” and that this is way out of my comfort zone. All of the other businesses are also much bigger that mine, that’s essentially just little old me, bashing some expensive bits of metal. Ah well, I guess I have nothing to loose!!

So, as a bit of preparation, here’s “some” of the things that make me (hopefully) greener than everyone else:

  1. I work from an off-grid highly insulated Eco Studio. It’s powered by the sun and a big battery that runs all of the equipment that I use.

  2. I’m also (kind of) “off-grid” for water, which is supplied by a similar clean and waste tank system that you might find in a camper van. I do currently have to fill up from a main water tap, but it means I have to be really careful not to waste any which has vastly reduced what I use! I also have future plans to harvest the rainwater from the roof.

  3. My studio has a compost toilet - again saving LOADS of water.

  4. I’m vegan, so I’m not contributing to the massive amount of land, water and energy it takes to rear livestock.

  5. I don’t fly or make unnecessary journeys. When I do travel, it’s on foot, by bike, public transport or electric car. My studio is in my garden so there’s no commuting!

  6. All of my packaging is plastic free and biodegradable and/or recyclable. I also reuse the packaging that I receive.

  7. I’m about to announce that I will be changing my business model and ONLY working with old jewellery that I’ll recycle “in-house” at my Eco Studio.

  8. I’m a certified B CORP!

I’ve probably missed some, so if you’re reading this and have anything to add, please do add it to the comments below!
